Colon cancer screening - Just got easier !

Colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in the US.  1in 24 men & 1 in 26 women are at a lifetime risk of colon cancer.  The prevalence in older age is dropping, but with higher incidence in less than 50 years. Screening of persons aged 45 and above is an important measure to detect those at risk and diagnose at early stages of the condition. 

But the screening is far from pleasant. The preparation for colonscopy involves staying on clear liquids, low-fiber diet ,consuming strong precription laxatives to empty the bowe or handling stools. This adds to the anxiety of the actual procedure of inserting a camera probe into the colon. The complexity and embarassing nature of this procedure deters many from undergoing this procedure. People are ready to risk cancer instead of enduring a colonoscopy

A simple blood test .
FDA approved

SHIELD (by Guardant) is a blood test that detects colon cancer from DNA shed into the blood. The results are available within 2 weeks.  

March being annual National Colon Screening month, Seven Corners Medical Center partnered with Guardant to screen our eligible patients with Shield. The event had a great response. On March 10, 2026, nearly, 30 patients got screened at our clinic. They were very appreciative of the simpleness of the procedure.
Most commercial insurances are accepted until end of March (Medicare & Tricare only thereafter)
